June POWerful Word – FOCUS – Week 1

What does the word “focus” mean to you (i.e. concentrate)? When you are focusing on something, what do you do with your eyes (i.e. eyes on task)? You are using Powerful Laser-Beam focus. When you are focusing, what do you do with your ears (i.e. listen to the teacher, coach, or the thoughts inside our heads, when needed)? We might focus on learning math, doing homework, learning a skill, drawing a picture or building something. What does it mean to “multi- task” and how does that affect focus (i.e. do several things at once- hard to complete each task well)? When do YOU use focus (i.e. learn skill, take test)? Can I have a volunteer to show one of the skills we’ve been working on in class? First, demonstrate the skill while we are quiet & still. Now do it again while we are all making noise, you are counting backwards from 50 and we are moving around you. What do you notice about your focus? When we focus, we keep our eyes on the job! We keep our ears…on the job! We keep our brain…on the job! And then, we get the job done! That’s focus!

If you have time: As a leader, how is focus important? How have YOU used focus as a leader?
