February POWerful Words – FAIRNESS – Week 4

As we’ve discussed this month, fairness does NOT always mean “the same.” People shouldn’t be given “the same” amount in all circumstances, but rather, what they need, earn or deserve. Let’s discuss what would be “the same,” “fair,” or “unfair” in the following situations. (1) Competing: If everyone was treated the same, no matter what their age, size or experience, everyone would compete in the same competition. When is this fair or unfair? What would be fair? What would be unfair? (2) School: If everyone was treated the same, no matter what age, special need or learning challenge, everyone would get the same amount of work and help with that work. What is fair? What is unfair? (3) In class: If everyone was treated the same, everyone would work on the same skills at the same time with the same help and instruction. What is fair? What is unfair? (4) Home: If everyone was treated the same, all siblings would all be getting the same amount of help to get ready for bed at night. What is fair? What is unfair?

If you have time:(5) Winning: If fair was the same, everyone would win! What is fair? What is unfair?
