July POWerful Word – RESILIENCE – Week 4

Have you ever heard of a “motto” before? A motto is a short, punchy phrase that helps to guide you in everything you do. For example, a good resilience motto might be: “if at
first you don’t succeed, try, try, again.” When I say “if at first you don’t succeed,” you answer, “try, try again!” Ready? Go! How can a motto help us to stay resilient in tough times? A motto doesn’t need to be fancy. You can have a motto that says; “I can do it!” or “when life pushes me down…I bounce back up1” or “Conceive it, Believe it, Achieve it!” What would YOU like your motto to be when you are having trouble with a skill or an activity? When would you use this motto? How can you remember this motto- write it down? Post it up? Say it over and over? What will YOU do? Watch what you say to yourself when the going gets tough!

If you have time: This is a good time to talk about your own mottos. What do you live by in tough times?
