“Compare yourself not to others, but to your own potential.”

This is a concept that Mr. Kovar talks about often. Everyone has different strengths, aptitudes and potential. The problem with comparing yourself to others is that you usually end up feeling incompetent or overconfident. It’s absolutely okay to emulate the positive qualities you see in others, but you need to avoid the trap of negatively comparing yourself to others.

Comparing yourself to your potential helps you to set realistic goals and not to expect too much or demand too little from yourself in martial arts and in life.
